The Basics
Who are LOONA?
LOONA is a K-Pop girl group comprised of 12 members. They were active from 2016 to 2022, going dormant after all members won lawsuits against their abusive company, BlockBerry Creative. They have since split into two new groups, ARTMS and Loossemble, with the remaining two members becoming soloists. The members have stated that a return in the future is possible.
They stood out with their extensive pre-debut project, in which every member was revealed one at a time and released a solo song over the course of 18 months, as well as forming subunits, before the full group debuted.
What is the Loonaverse?
The Loonaverse is the fictional story told through LOONA's music videos, teasers, and other material. It features fictionalized versions of the members, and explores concepts such as parallel universes, time loops, religion, queerness, and more.
It was created by Jaden Jeong, LOONA's creative director and music producer. The Loonaverse being its own fictional story, separate from the real girls, is a well-established fact. All mention of the members on this site refer to the fictional characters unless stated otherwise.
How does the Loonaverse work?
The Loonaverse's story is nonlinear and told primarily through symbolism, which can make deciphering it difficult. The way we can piece together what's going on is through connections between visuals, concepts, lyrics, etc., as well as what is explicitly stated in video descriptions, social media posts, and other official material.
The Loonaverse does not have a strictly-defined plot, and there are never any concrete answers given to most of its questions. Everyone will have their own personal interpretation of the story, what exactly happens, and what it means.
This method of storytelling is not for everyone, but it means that rather than one story, the Loonaverse can encompass infinite stories across everyone's individual interpretations. I will try to discuss as many interpretations and theories as I can in the Story section. How you view the story is purely up to you!
The primary forms of storytelling are the music videos and teasers. These are denoted with "[MV]" and "[Teaser]" respectively. Some videos are also denoted as "[]" (blank) or "[Trailer]."
The release order of these videos, for the most part, follows a simple pattern. Some of the member's solos are released, and then a subunit is formed with those members. We then move onto the solos of the next subunit's members, their subunit content, and then repeat until the full group is complete.
For the purposes of this site's Story section, I will be going in release order. I may reference future material if necessary, but I will mostly try to treat it as a walkthrough of the lore in the order that it came out.
